Dr. Winters, a Professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine, is a leader in the field of critical care in the emergency department. He is editor-in-chief of the textbook Emergency Department Resuscitation of the Critically Ill and he is the founder of the EM/IM/Critical Care Training Program at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He has taught courses nationally and internationally and won national education awards from ACEP and AAEM for his critical care teaching.
Dr. Hu is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine where she is also the Program Director for the Combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine and the Combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine/Critical Care Residency Programs. She has lectured and published on the management of critical illness in special populations, and her professional interests lie in medical education, resuscitation, difficult airway management, and ultrasound.
Dr. Allison is the assistant director of the intensive care unit at Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He enjoys teaching on topics related to respiratory failure including the use of invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation modalities. He has published on the adherence to low-tidal volume ventilation in the ED, the use of noninvasive ventilation in the ED, and the use of high flow nasal cannula in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. A graduate of the combined training program in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Michael is board certified in all three disciplines.
Ashley Martinelli is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Emergency Medicine. She earned her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati, completed her first year residency training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and a residency in Critical Care at Allegheny General Hospital. In 2017, she joined the team at the University of Maryland Medical Center and now serves as the program director for the PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency Program and as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Sutherland is an attending physician and Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland, where he works clinically in the Medical ICU and Emergency Department. He also serves as the Medical Director for the Access Center Physician group, as well as holding roles in the EM/IM residency program and UMMS Epic Physician Builder program. Mark attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA and graduated from University of Maryland’s combined Emergency, Internal, and Critical Care Medicine residency program in 2020.
